Rep. Harry Bean has led the Belknap County Delegation now for 2+ years, and navigated the 2022 Gunstock crisis by assembling a coalition of state rep delegation members to keep the disruptive libertarian leadership of Rep. Michael Sylvia and Norm Silber in check. Not all of the libertarians were unseated, however, and he’s needed to manage the continued obstruction and disruption of the Delegation’s work by Reps. Barbara Comtois, Paul Terry, Lisa Smart, Nikki McCarter, and Tom Ploszaj. Rep. Varney doesn’t show up to Delegation meetings.
Rep. Bean updated his profile for 2024:
My name is Harry H. Bean, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Rep in District #6, Gilford, Gilmanton, and Ward #2 Laconia. I am the third of five generations of Beans named Harry. My family has lived at the same location on Saltmarsh Pond Rd. since 1842.
I have been married to my wife, Priscilla, for almost 53 years and have three grown children, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. We also have 2 cats and a great dane. Priscilla and I have enjoyed traveling over 195,000 miles on our Harley Ultra Classic over the last 15 years.
We started H & P Apartments, a rental business in Laconia, 49 years ago. With the help from my son, Harry IV, my grandson, Harry V, and my daughter-in-law, Tina, our business has prospered and has been recognized with several “Front Porch” awards from the City of Laconia and the Town of Gilford.
Priscilla and I are very involved in our community and enjoy fundraising and helping local charities. I enjoy playing Santa, with my wife as the elf, for the kids in our community at the Laconia Elks and many surprise locations while cruising on our Harley in Central NH for the last 15 years. (Yes, in December if there is no snow or ice on the roads.) We also have enjoyed helping prepare Christmas dinner for the First Methodist Church for the past 20+ years before COVID and the monthly meat raffles at the Laconia Elks for almost 8 years.
Through our Arm-wrestling competitions we have raised approximately $40,000. Over the last 25+ years, we have donated the money to various organizations like St. Jude, the Shriners, Make a Wish Foundation, St. Andres, the Salvation Army, and too many others to name.
Issues of concern and my reasons for running are:
I want our vets to get the care they need, whether physical or psychological. They have given part of their lives to protect our nation, they deserve the best medical care and to be treated with dignity.
Voter Integrity: Every citizen’s right to vote must be protected and the value of their vote must be protected against votes from people who aren’t committed to our communities and state. In 2016 there were about 6000 votes cast in NH that could not be connected to anyone who lives in the State.
Illegal immigrants: What part of illegal isn’t clear? It makes no sense to let criminal illegal aliens stay in our country.
I am committed to responsible government spending and respecting your rights. I will do everything in my power to protect our American way of life based on the Constitution of the United States of America and of this great State of New Hampshire.
Last term, the following State Reps banded together, with me, to get Gunstock Mountain Resort re-opened in time to get ready for the ski season:
Rep (now Senator) Lang, Rep Littlefield, Rep Hough, Rep Bordes, Rep Harvey-Bolia, Rep O’Hara, Rep Mackie, Rep Trottier and Rep Ploszaj.
I am asking for your votes in the Republican primary election on September 10th and the general election on November 5th.
