About the Candidate

Candidate

Questionnaire

Ms. Minor is president of DRM Corporation owning and managing about 250 apartments in greater Laconia. In response to a Citizens for Belknap inquiry, she replied with the following:

Thanks for taking the time to get to know what I stand for!

I would say I am certainly a moderate Republican that believes in family, community and certainly the Constitution!

I have lived in Belknap County specifically the Lakes Region my whole life. I have raised my kids here and taken in some bonus kids along the way. I have instilled working for what you have and always giving a hand up when needed, [and] I have always volunteered and mentored in my community.

I have held many different jobs so I have been able to wear many hats. I pride myself on my ability to really talk with people and to actively listen. This skill allows us to come up with plans to make things better for everyone.

Working for our county made me realize the importance of keeping our good qualified employees. I know that having to continuously rehire, due to losing employees to better-paying jobs, makes the burden a lot less on taxpayers.

I never judge anyone on their political views or affiliation. I actually have a handful of supporters, who actually have mostly republican views but stay independent. I am eager to get involved in politics, to learn about the processes, listen to all sides of issues and to make our community better.

Ms. Minor has been quoted in a few Laconia Daily Sun articles, this one regarding workforce housing in Laconia, which continues to be a city and county issue. Apartments in demand amid short supply.

In Her Own Words . . .

Ms. Minor returned her Citizens for Belknap Questionnaire with these responses:

Questionnaire

1. Why are you running, and what do you hope to achieve in the next legislative term?
I am running because I feelings my civic duty to step up for the citizens of Laconia I would love to add some things done with people getting help, getting people to be more accountable for their lifestyle

2. Assess the recent performance of Gunstock. If elected, would you keep it in the same direction or change course?
I think things have been relatively good, I would like to see some expansion
when we are able

3. Given budget constraints for the Belknap County Nursing Home, how would you stretch county taxpayer dollars and still meet our high standards of care?
I am not really sure I would love to hear some ideas, I certainly would not cut things from them.

4. As a member of the Belknap County Delegation, how would you improve county hiring practices to attract the highest quality candidates for our nursing home, public safety and administrative positions?
These types of important employees need to be paid what the market is with maybe even sign on bonus contingent on being employed for period of time. Cheaper to pay the good quality employees and keep them happy than to have to new hire constantly

5. Should Belknap County manage its own nursing home and county corrections departments, or privatize them? What about Gunstock Recreation Area/Gunstock Mountain Ski Area?
belknap county should handle county business.

6. What are your ideas for the former 220-acre Laconia State School property?
I don’t have ideas to what it should be another one I would love to hear opinions on but something should happen

7. What would you do as a State Representative to improve the opioid and drug problem in the region?
well... this one clearly did not go away by building drug rehab centers as we have a few now and many many sober homes, I feel like it is pretty easy and comfortable to be an addict in our community. I wish people would (citizens) call and make complaints when they see the issues many complain but do not report so it looks like our problem is not as bad as it is.

8. What do you think is the most important skill of being a good State Rep, and why
I think the most important is being honest, and listening nothing I do alone will do anything I have to hear what others are thinking, what ideas could be useful!

9. What do you see are the biggest needs of Belknap County, and what would you do to fill that need?
another tough one we do LIVE IN A resort community, with that comes the expensive housing etc.. I understand the need for affordable housing ( I actually provide it) but we can not expect to turn the whole area into affordable housing the revenue created from the higher priced property is good for us. I am not huge fan of investors coming in and buying a lot of property and over charging

10. What percentage of your campaign funding comes from outside the county? How much from out of state?
I have paid for any campaigning that has been done on my behalf or people have volunteered to get the word out about me

11. Do you think our current county government should be smaller, larger, or stay the same?
stay the same with with common sense laws

12. Should Belknap County manage its own nursing home and county corrections departments, or privatize them? What about the Gunstock Recreation Area?
I think the county

13. What distinguishes you from the other candidates?
I have worked in many types of careers giving me the ability to talk to a diverse group of people over my life from bartending to working in corrections, school bus driver and lastly landlord I have volunteered with groups that help get people into housing and seen the struggle they have been in. I LOVE listening to people and hearing what they may need and how I can help I do this on a daily basis in my life. I have worked very hard since I was 13 years old a work ethic instilled in my from my parents and my grandparents before them.

14. What endorsements have you received?

15. How long have you lived in Belknap County?
almost 50 year!!!
