Recommendation Factors

Our steering committee researched and discussed each candidate.  These recommendations are the result of that effort.

To learn much more about each candidate please click the candidate names below.

Barbara Comtois - Not Recommended:  Libertarian and County Delegation obstructionist. Part of Delegation leadership during libertarian gutting of county budget and instrumental in Gunstock chaos.  Prime-sponsored failed 2024 bill in NH House attacking Gunstock, over rejections by county delegation and House committee.

Ruth Larson - Recommended:  Retired lawyer and former State Senate candidate, tireless bipartisan campaigner, former seats as Gunstock Area Commissioner and Alton supervisor of the checklist. Actively opposed libertarian attacks on Gunstock, nursing home and county budget.

Peter R. Varney - Neutral:  The least harmful of District 7’s libertarian incumbents due to not attending Delegation meetings. Small business owner, fire chief in New Durham. Boycotted pivotal Gunstock meeting with other libertarians.

Stephanie Vuolo -   Recommended:  Alton resident and former software salesperson, long time summer then full time Belknap County resident.  Responses in questionnaires indicate reasonable and responsible positions on housing, budget, Gunstock, and other county issues.

Paul A. Terry - Not Recommended: Libertarian incumbent.  Took money from NH Exit, promoting NH’s secession from the U.S.  One of 13 reps to support NH constitutional amendment to do so. Supported libertarian take-over of Gunstock Area Commission, boycotted pivotal Gunstock meetings, and gutting of the Belknap County budget. Co-sponsored 2024 bill HB 1414 again attacking Gunstock. Lives in Alton.

Susan Church StevensNeutral:   Susan Stevens  of Alton is a first time candidate for District 7.  Her positions on county issues are reasonable, and while we don't see her as an extremist, she has not run a robust campaign.
